#ZLC130 - Early Giuseppe Garibaldi Macaroni Label
#ZLC130 - Early Giuseppe Garibaldi Macaroni Label
Vintage 9" wide Giuseppe Garibaldi Macaroni crate or box label. Fantastic stone litho image of Giuseppe Garibaldi in a horse drawn chariot, and another of a young man eating macaroni. Very colorful, unusual, and uncommon. These were found at the Pasquale Gunta Sons warehouse in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and are circa 1910. Nice unused condition with some very tiny aging imperfections that you see in all labels this age. Just in case you wondered, Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian military and political figure who contributed to the independence of Uruguay, leading the Italian Legion in the Uruguayan Civil War, and afterwards returning to Italy as the commander in the conflicts of the Risorgimento. He has been dubbed the "Hero of the Two Worlds" in tribute to his military expeditions in both South America and Europe, and is considered an Italian national hero. He died in 1882, but was still a well known figure into the early 1900s.
